Do you have tinted windows? Are you thinking about getting your windows tinted?
Do you need help on how to clean tinted windows correctly?
When your tinted windows are new, they look great. We understand your desire to keep them looking like new. Knowing the correct way to wash your tinted windows is the first step.
The first thing you need to know is…
…once you tint a window you should not use the following to clean it.
- Anything abrasive
- Razor blades (you definitely don’t want to do that!)
Did you know that 98.5% of the time window tint is on the inside of the glass, not the outside? Since it is on the inside, we are often asked by homeowners the best way to clean tinted windows. Here is what you should use to clean your tinted windows.
- Soap and water
- Microfiber cloths or diaper rags
Take your Windex® bottle, dump it out, and fill it up with fresh water and a little bit of Dawn dish soap. Then spray it on the window. You want to make sure you are using a microfiber cleaning cloth, not an abrasive cloth. Today, almost every store carries microfiber cloths. Old diaper rags will also work. Remember the following are too harsh.
STAY AWAY FROM:
- Paper towels
- White scrubby pads
Newspaper can also leave fibers on the tint. The key to correctly washing your tinted windows is to make sure that you are using just soap and water with a microfiber cloth or diaper rag.
ONE MORE TIP:
- Stay away from doing your window cleaning in direct sunlight. If you can clean them in the evening when the window has a chance to cool off, that is the best time.
At Coastline Window Cleaning, we like to clean tinted windows with soap, water, and a squeegee. If you have a Home Depot or ACE hardware nearby, run up there and get yourself a squeegee. Put the soap and water on the window, and pull the squeegee straight up and down. Good job! That should do it.
Remember to stay away from anything abrasive when cleaning your tinted windows, because scratches do not come off of the tint. You have to retint the whole window.
At Coastline, we don’t tint windows. We just love cleaning them. If you’re looking for an awesome company that tints windows, call our good friends Beverly Hills Window Tinting and ask for Chris. They are wonderful people. Make sure you mention Coastline sent you. 🙂
Hope this was helpful!
